Scholarship value/inclusions:

Berea College offers full financial support to each and every one of its overseas students for the first year that they are enrolled there. In succeeding years, it is expected of international students to save a minimum of one thousand dollars (US) per year to contribute toward covering their expenditures. The college makes it possible for international students to fulfill this requirement by offering them work during the summer.

To confirm their admission, accepted international students are required to pay an entrance fee of US$50 as well as a deposit of US$2,200. International students have access to this deposit for the duration of their enrolment, which can be used to cover a variety of costs. Additional financial aid is available for students who are unable to pay the deposit in full or in part. This applies to students who are unable to pay any portion of the deposit.

During the course of the academic year, the College’s Work Program ensures that each and every international student has a secure, well-paying work on campus to do. Students have the option of deducting personal costs from their salaries, which typically total around $2,000 for the first academic year.

Eligibility:

Applicants to Berea College must be students who have strong academic potential and financial need. Most of Berea College students score between 20 and 30 on the ACT (or SAT equivalent) and have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0 in a strong college prep curriculum. Students may take either the ACT or SAT.

Other factors such as community service, leadership qualities, and levels of motivatio will also be taken into consideration. The College strongly recommends the following high school curriculum:

• 4 units of English (including composition, rhetoric, and literature)
• 3 units of Mathematics (at least Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry)
• 2 units of Laboratory Science
• 2 units of Social Science/History (including World History)
• 2 units of a foreign language.
