Akufo-Addo Begs Teachers To End Strike For The Sake Of BECE Candidates

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged striking teachers to return to the classroom as talks with the administration continue.

The President said that teachers should think about the upcoming BECE, which is required of third-year pupils in Junior High Schools.


The President’s call follows on the heels of ongoing labor agitations in the education sector.

Four teacher unions have been on strike for the past week due to poor working conditions and stagnating pay.


Teachers are asking a cost of living allowance to cover their living expenses, citing worsening economic conditions.

The President pleaded with teachers to reconsider their choice for the benefit of the pupils.

He also advised residents to suffer with the administration through the choking of covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.


In support of the Eid Fitr event at Independence Square, the President gave an undisclosed monetary donation to the National Chief Imam.
